Ric Flair (Professional Wrestler) - On This Day
Full Name: Richard Morgan Fliehr
Profession: Professional Wrestler
Biography: Ric Flair's career spanned over forty years, and he is regarded by many as one of the all-time best professional wrestlers—known, since the 1970s, as 'The Nature Boy.' He has been WWE world champion at least 16 times, with others claiming up to 25 wins—he himself claims to have won the world championship 21 times.
Flair began as an amateur wrestler training under Verne Gagne. His debut was against George "Scrap Iron" Gadaski on the 10th of December, 1970—which was also when he first adopted the ring name 'Ric Flair.' He then fought in Japan in 1973, then began wrestling in Jim Crockett's National Wrestling Alliance.
In 1975, Flair's wrestling career was almost ended after a serious plane crash in which his back was broken, the pilot was killed, and fellow wrestled Johnny Valentine was paralysed. Despite being told he might never wrestle again, Flair was back in the ring only eight months later.
Since then he has gone on to be a fixture in professional wrestling—beloved by fans not only for his victories, but also for his antics in the ring.
