Deputy Chairman Steps In, Takes First Action Over NWC

Elder Yemi Akinwonmi, Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party, has assumed the position of the suspended national chairman, Uche Secondus.

Naija News reported earlier that a Rivers High Court in Port Harcourt on Monday ordered the suspension of Secondus as the national chairman of the PDP.

A few hours after the development, Akinwomi on Wednesday took over the affairs of the party and immediately suspended the National Working Committee meeting of the party indefinitely.

Akinwonmi cited Section 35 (b) of the PDP Constitution to support his action, Naija News reports.

Meanwhile, former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has declared that the court order which restrained Uche Secondus from parading himself as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman can’t end the leadership crisis in the party.

FFK in a statement on Tuesday, observed that the development looks like a meltdown to him. He further questioned how long the party can continue to hold without getting pulled apart by the leadership crisis currently rocking it.

Taking to his social media page on Tuesday, he wrote: “Secondus restrained from being National Chairman of
@OfficialPDPNig by court order?”

“Even if the order is lifted in a few days the leadership crisis in the party just does not seem to want to go away.”

“For how much longer can the centre hold?”

“Looks like a meltdown to me!”
