Publish date: 2024-09-12

The current political swing in Oyo State has seen 2023 gubernatorial aspirant, Adebayo Adelabu, renounced his membership in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adelabu ended speculations on Sunday after he officially announced that he has yielded to calls from his supporters to dump APC.

The former Deputy Governor (Operations) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said the broom party has been polluted and hijacked by some persons in the state.

Adelabu who was the gubernatorial candidate of APC in 2019 had participated in the party’s gubernatorial primary election on Friday but lost, Naija News understands.

He, however, refused to reveal his next political movement but promised to announce his decision in the next 48hours.

Naija News understands that Adelabu spoke during an emergency with his followers in Ibadan today. The governorship aspirant said he will realise his ambition soon in another political party.

Present at the meeting were Senator Ademola Adeseun, former Oyo South senatorial aspirant, Dr. Olusola Ayandele, former APC Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, Chief Goke Oyetunji, Chief Kunle Sanda, former Chairman of Atisbo Local government, Mr Jacob Ogunmola, former ALGON Chairman, Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye and Mr Wasiu Ajimobi, a younger brother to the immediate past governor, Abiola Ajimobi.

Adelabu explained further that consultation is ongoing with his followers from the 33 local government areas of the state to conclude on the next party to join ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He said, “Since my followers have asked me to leave APC, we have left the APC.

“We will sit down with our leaders to decide on the political party to join. We will come back to APC after winning the gubernatorial election, because we are progressives.

“It worked during the time of late Abiola Ajimobi, he left AC and went to ANPP and later came back to ACN.

“Just give us 48 hours to get back to you to announce the next political party to join.”
