Running Mate: Kwankwaso Storms Rivers, Meets Wike

Publish date: 2024-08-12

The Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, arrived in Rivers State on Friday evening to meet with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Governor Nyesom Wike.

Naija News understands that the two political big wigs met in Port Harcourt on Friday evening at the governor’s residence.

Kwankwaso was accompanied to Rivers State with his entourage. Also present at the meeting were former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose; former Attorney General of the Federation, Bello Adoki, Chief Ferdinard Alabraba, and Senator Olaka Worgu, among others.

Naija News understands that Kwankwaso’s visit is barely 48hours after the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, also visited Wike in Port Harcourt.

Kwankwaso, just like his counterparts from other parties, is searching for a suitable running mate ahead of the 2023 general elections.

There have been reports of the NNPP making consultations over the possibility of a merger with the Labour Party. The discussion has been experiencing stumbling blocks due to who will step down to become the running mate of the other.

However, Kwankwaso’s meeting with Wike today might indicate that he may use the Rivers State Governor as his running mate.

Recall that Wike had contested in the presidential primary election of the PDP but lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The Rivers State governor was hopeful of getting a vice-presidential ticket before it was given to his counterpart in Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa.
