Mike Sonko supporters dump garbage at Kidero's door as battle for Nairobi hots up

- They chanted songs in support of Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko during the demonstration

Angry employees of the Nairobi City county paralysed services at City Hall over unpaid salaries on Wednesday, May 17.

The workers held demonstrations against Governor Evans Kidero accusing him not paying their dues while the county was raking millions in rates and taxes.

The workers also dumped heaps of garbage outside City Hall Annex leading to police intervening to prevent the demos from escalating.

They dd all that while chanting the name of Nairobi senator Mike Sonko who is set to battle it out with Evans Kidero for Nairobi governorship.

Nairobi County Secretary Robert Ayisi claimed the workers strike was illegal and pointless as the salaries will be paid before the end of the week.

Motorists enjoyed free parking as no county askaris were charging them fees in the central business district.

Other employees working for the county government including doctors and nurses are set to go on strike on Thursday, May 18.

The Nairobi gubernatorial election in August heated up in April when Sonko was declared winner of the Jubilee primaries after beating Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.

Sonko,who on Tuesday, May 16, named Vivo energy CEO Polycarp Igathe as his running mate has been critical of Kidero's administration accusing it of massive corruption.

The senator's camp had sensationally claimed they will prosecute Kidero for corruption when they defeat him in August.

The battle for Nairobi has also attracted former Raila Odinga aide Miguna Miguna.
